These Terms of Service (the "Terms") govern your access to and use of Eagle Index, available at
bceagleindex.com (the "Service"). By accessing or using the
Service, you agree to be bound by these Terms and by our Privacy Policy. If you
do not agree, you may not use the Service.
2. Description of the Service
Eagle Index is an independent resource that helps Boston College students research courses and faculty.
The Service presents information drawn from the following sources:
results of the course evaluations Boston College students complete each semester;
publicly available information from the Boston College faculty directory, such as names, titles and photographs;
publicly available student ratings; and
ratings and reviews submitted by users of the Service.
Eagle Index is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or operated on behalf of Boston College. Any references to
Boston College, its courses or its faculty are for identification purposes only.
3. Eligibility and Accounts
Anyone may browse the Service. To submit a rating or review, you must sign in with a Google account issued by
Boston College and bearing a verified @bc.edu email address. You may hold only one account,
and you may submit only one rating for each combination of professor and course.
You are responsible for all activity that occurs under your account and for maintaining the security of your
Google credentials. You must notify us promptly of any unauthorized use of your account.
4. Your Ratings and Reviews
Ratings and reviews you submit ("User Content") are displayed publicly without your name or email address. A
written review is optional; a rating submitted without one contributes to a professor's overall rating but is
not listed among the written reviews.
You retain ownership of your User Content. By submitting it, you grant Eagle Index a non-exclusive,
royalty-free, worldwide license to host, store, display, reproduce and aggregate it for the purpose of
operating and improving the Service. This license ends when you delete the User Content or your account,
except to the extent the content has been incorporated into aggregate statistics that do not identify you.
You are solely responsible for your User Content and represent that it reflects your own genuine experience
with the professor and course concerned.
5. Standards of Conduct
You agree not to submit content, or otherwise use the Service in a manner, that:
is false, misleading, or not based on your own experience;
is defamatory, abusive, harassing, threatening or obscene;
contains hate speech or discriminates on the basis of any protected characteristic;
discloses personal information about any individual, including information about a professor's private life;
impersonates any person or misrepresents your affiliation with any person;
contains advertising, spam, or content unrelated to the course or professor;
infringes the intellectual property or other rights of any person; or
attempts to manipulate ratings, circumvent account limits, interfere with the Service, or access it by automated means without our permission.
6. Moderation and Enforcement
We may, at our sole discretion and without notice, review, decline to publish, or remove any User Content
that we believe violates these Terms or is otherwise inappropriate. We may suspend or terminate the account of
any user who violates these Terms, and we may report serious or repeated violations to Boston College or to
appropriate authorities. We are under no obligation to monitor User Content, and our decision not to remove
content does not constitute an endorsement of it.
Written reviews are checked automatically before they are published. A review that clearly breaks the Standards
of Conduct is not posted, and you will be told why so that you can revise it; a review the check is unsure about
is held until we look at it. Signed-in students can also report a review, and a review reported by several
students is hidden while we review it.
If you believe content on the Service violates these Terms, use the Report link under the review or notify us
using the contact information below.
7. Accuracy of Information
Ratings and reviews represent the opinions of individual students and do not reflect the views of Eagle
Index or its operators. While we take reasonable care in compiling course evaluation results and other
information, we do not guarantee that any information on the Service is accurate, complete or current. You
should not rely on the Service as the sole basis for any academic decision.
8. Intellectual Property
The Service is built on the open-source
Eagle Eval project and is subject to the terms of its
license. Faculty photographs and directory information remain the property of their respective owners. Except
as permitted by law or by these Terms, you may not copy, scrape, or redistribute substantial portions of the
Service.
9. Disclaimer of Warranties
THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE," WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, WHETHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED,
INCLUDING ANY IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE
DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE SERVICE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, SECURE OR ERROR-FREE.
10. Limitation of Liability
TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, EAGLE INDEX AND ITS OPERATORS SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT,
INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR ANY LOSS ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF, OR INABILITY
TO USE, THE SERVICE OR ANY CONTENT AVAILABLE THROUGH IT.
11. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Eagle Index and its operators from any claim, liability or expense,
including reasonable attorneys' fees, arising out of your User Content or your violation of these Terms.
12. Termination
You may stop using the Service and delete your account at any time from your profile page. We may suspend or
discontinue the Service, or your access to it, at any time. Sections 4 and 7 through 11 survive any termination
of these Terms.
13. Changes to These Terms
We may revise these Terms from time to time. When we do, we will update the effective date above and, where the
changes are material, provide notice on the Service. Your continued use of the Service after revised Terms take
effect constitutes your acceptance of them.
14. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, without regard to its conflict of
laws principles.
