Eagle Index
Privacy Policy
Effective October 16, 2026
1. Scope
This Privacy Policy describes how Eagle Index ("we," "us" or "our") collects, uses and discloses information in connection with the website available at bceagleindex.com (the "Service"). It should be read together with our Terms of Service. Eagle Index is an independent resource and is not affiliated with Boston College; this Policy does not describe Boston College's own privacy practices.
2. Information We Collect
Account information
When you sign in with your Boston College Google account, Google provides us with your name, your verified @bc.edu email address and a unique Google account identifier. We do not receive or store your password.
Ratings and reviews
When you rate a professor, we store the course, your quality and difficulty scores, whether you would take the professor again, the grade you received (if you choose to provide it), any written review, and the date of submission. Each submission is linked to your account so that you can manage it and so that we can enforce the limit of one rating per professor and course.
Bug reports
If you report a bug, we store your description, the page you name, your browser type, the date, your email address if you choose to provide it, and a link to your account if you are signed in. We use this only to investigate and fix the problem and, if you gave an email address, to reply to you. Bug reports are never published.
Technical information
Like most websites, our servers automatically record limited technical information when you use the Service, such as your IP address, browser type, the pages you request, and the date and time of each request. We use a performance monitoring service to detect errors and keep the Service reliable.
3. How We Use Information
We use the information described above only to:
- verify that you hold a Boston College account and keep you signed in;
- publish your ratings and reviews and include them in each professor's overall rating;
- allow you to view and delete your own submissions;
- enforce our Terms of Service and protect the integrity of ratings;
- maintain, secure, troubleshoot and improve the Service; and
- comply with legal obligations.
We do not use your information for advertising, and we do not sell or rent it to anyone.
4. Information That Is Public
Your ratings, written reviews, the course you selected, the grade you reported (if any) and the submission date are visible to anyone who uses the Service. Your name, email address and Google account identifier are never displayed alongside your submissions. Please note that the content of a written review may itself identify you to others, and we encourage you not to include personal details.
7. Information About Faculty
Professor profiles contain information that Boston College makes publicly available, including names, titles, departments, photographs and office contact details, together with course evaluation results and student ratings. Faculty members who believe information about them is inaccurate may contact us to request a correction.
8. Retention
We keep your account information and submissions for as long as your account remains active. Sign-in sessions expire after 30 days. When you delete a review or your account, the corresponding information is removed from the Service, although copies may persist in backups for a limited period before being overwritten.
9. Your Choices and Rights
You may view and delete any of your ratings and reviews from your profile page. You may also delete your account there, which permanently removes your account information and all of your submissions. You may contact us at any time to request access to, or correction or deletion of, information we hold about you.
10. Security
We use reasonable safeguards to protect your information, including encrypted connections, secure cookie settings and restricted access to our database. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, however, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
11. Children
The Service is intended for members of the Boston College community and is not directed to children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
12. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the effective date above and, where the changes are material, provide notice on the Service before they take effect.
13. Contact
Questions or requests concerning this Privacy Policy may be directed to davidstc@bc.edu.
