Managerial Decision Making (MGMT 2172)

Management and Organization · Boston College

The course examines decision making, one of the most prolific and consequential activities undertaken by managers, to improve students skills in exercising choice. It begins by exploring the psychology of judgment. The hidden brain, or subconscious biases and heuristics hard-wired into human cognitive processes, are examined along with pressures arising from group and broader social forces. Through hands-on exercises and case analyses, students will learn how and why decision making often goes awry, and strategies for avoiding prevalent traps. The course will also examine choice architecture.
